RV Vacation – More Music Festivals in April

How about getting out of town in your RV and driving to a fantastic music festival for a relaxing yet exciting RV vacation?  There are many music festivals happening in April around the country. We’ll feature a few on each side.

First and foremost is Coachella, which everyone has probably heard of, taking place in Indio, California from April 12th – 14th and 19th to the 21st.  Indio is east of LA by about 2 hours and 20 to 30 minutes – depending on traffic of course.

This festival is the traditional kickoff to the summer festival season. The glitz and glamour of Los Angeles migrates east to the Indio desert for back to back weekends of the biggest names in music. What started as a small electronic festival in the desert has transformed into a cultural touchstone for the festival season. It also features a Sunday Service on Easter Sunday, the last day of this year’s festival. Amazing headliners include Ariana Grande, Tame Impala and Weezer, as well as Childish Gambino opening on the two Fridays of the festival. See the Coachella official website for all the performer details and camping opportunities in Indio.  Music Festival RV Vacations

If you want to make a longer journey than just one weekend, consider camping in Joshua Tree National Park, less than an hour to drive the 30 miles northeast from Coachella.

If you need to rent an RV for this adventure, check out our California page on Where to Rent an RV – and see several California locations to choose from.

Moving eastward from California, there is another large alternative rock and hip hop music festival called So What? in Houston on April 27th – 28th. This festival features Beartooth, Crown the Empire, We Came as Romans and others like Parkway Drive and Killswitch Engage. It takes place at White Oak Music Hall, a five acre, three-stage indoor/outdoor live music venue. You can find out all the other bands that will play and the full schedule and ticket prices by checking the So What Music Festival Website. Camping in your RV near Houston should be relatively easy. The Lakeview RV Resort or Westlake RV Resort are both highly rated as is the AllStar RV Resort.

Need to rent an RV? Our Dallas El Monte RV Rental location is just under a 4 hour drive to Houston. Check there for availability and rental rates.

And on the eastern seaboard, there are several music choices depending on the type of music you prefer. On the weekend of April 13th-14th, you could choose to go to Charleston, SC for the High Water Fest, or to Baton Rouge for a Blues Festival. The High Water Fest is a new South Carolina music festival, organized by the husband and wife team behind the folk duo, Shovels & Rope. The curated lineup at Riverfront Park in N. Charleston, is filled with plenty of Americana folk rock acts like The Avett Brothers, The Shins, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and Dawes. High Water also features plenty of tasty local libations along with Charleston chef-curated dining experiences. More information is at their website High Water Fest.

The Baton Rouge Blues Festival takes place the same weekend – April 13th-14th in Baton Rouge’s Repentance Park. Originating in 1981, the Baton Rouge Blues Festival is one of the oldest free blues festivals in America. Produced by the Baton Rouge Blues Foundation, the festival is made possible in part by the Foundation’s board of directors, a volunteer Blues Festival committee, local support and generous partners. This year’s lineup features Mavis Staples, Kenny Neal, Lil Ray Neal and Tyree Neal and lots and lots of other jazz greats. See all the lineup details and more official information at the Baton Rouge Blues Festival’s website.
