RV Vacation Idea – San Diego Jazz Festival

What a way to spend the long Thanksgiving weekend! You can take in the sights and sounds of San Diego, one of the most beautiful cities in America, while enjoying this 4 day jazz festival from November 21 – 25. This year’s lineup of musicians includes a wide variety of traditional jazz, Dixieland, ragtime, swing, and rockabilly styles. This 39th year of the Festival offers something for every taste in classic jazz. The schedule of entertainment begins on Wednesday evening, November 21st and runs through Sunday evening at 6 pm.

The San Diego Jazz Festival: Discerning fans call this festival the “crown jewel of jazz festivals.” It is held at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center in San Diego. With five ballrooms and several terrace salons, there is music coming from every corner of the venue. Check out the Dave Bennett Quartet or the Dick Williams Jazzsea Jam. Or you may prefer a swing dance class or other active and  participatory activities. Check out the full schedule here.

San Diego Sights to See: If you happen to want a little outdoor recreation during this long weekend, there is an almost infinite variety of sights to see in San Diego. The most famous is the San Diego Zoo, but if time doesn’t permit, you should still go and see the huge park that houses the Zoo. Balboa Park was the site of the Panama California Exposition of 1915 (to commemorate the opening of the Panama Canal) and the California Pacific International Exposition in 1935. Most of the old structures are still there, restored to their early 20th century glory. There are museums, restaurants and lots of places to just sit and enjoy the view of a huge Italian style fountain or beautiful trees.

There is even a Japanese garden to stroll through and observe the meticulously planted trees and shrubs.

The original and world’s largest outdoor pipe organ is in the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, right in the center of the park. Every Sunday at 2 pm, there is a free organ concert there, put on by the Spreckels Organ Society, who maintain the organ and provide the organists. Balboa Park is a gem right in the city of San Diego. Don’t miss it.

Each neighborhood in San Diego has its own character and is marked by unique entry signs or lights and placards and banners on street lamps. The flavor of the city is as diverse as its people and you can find places to dine on any cuisine from authentic Indian Curry or Mexican Tacos to traditional American fare.
