An Autumn RV Trip to Woodstock, New York

An RV trip up through New York State is the ideal way to catch the fall colors. The brilliant reds, golds and oranges elicit all the pleasant memories of fall fun from the time you were a child up to the present. The leaves begin to turn in the middle of September and finish around the end of October. You have plenty of time to plan the perfect getaway.

You will see scenic villages and move through countryside bound to take your breath away. Start out in historic Kingston, New York, and discover a wide variety of activities for all ages. The Trolley Museum of New York is a great start for learning some history. The Hudson River Maritime Museum has both indoor and outdoor exhibits that are fun to browse. And don’t neglect the Saugerties Lighthouse on Esopus Creek. That is a quick side-trip north of Kingston.

You will then make your way over to Woodstock, New York where fall means some lovely views and a chance for more great activities. The Catskill Mountains are the main attraction, as nature beckons you into its charms. From Woodstock drive to Willow and be sure to visit the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary on Van Wagner Road.  The rescued animals here are treated with compassion and care. It is a wonderful place to visit.

Continue on! There is more to see. Next you’ll come to Mount Tremper, which lies within Catskill State Park. From here you can take one of the Fall Foliage trains to get some of the best views of the colors.

Phoenicia, New York is just a hop, skip and a jump away and offers all sorts of unique adventures. Shop for special treats to take home to friends and family or take off on a hike through unspoiled forests. You are right in the heart of the Catskills and now is the time to take advantage of your position. Of course, Phoenicia is an artists’ community, so you are sure to see some wonderful artworks by some of the most creative folks around.

You can discover some wonderful RV camping in Phoenicia at the Phoenicia Black Bear Camp & RV on Bridge Street. Located on Esopus Creek, this is a spot where folks stop and gather for more outdoor fun. If you have brought your pet, no worries! They are pet-friendly. You will be able to fish, watch wildlife and go horseback riding nearby.

In town you will want to see the Empire State Railway Museum. The Phoenicia station has been restored and provides the perfect location for the many changing exhibits. Learning about this area’s history is all part of the experience.

Traveling through New York is always fun, but in autumn it is even more exciting because you can enjoy and marvel at the wonderful colors of the leaves as you celebrate another fall. Be sure to stay as long as you can!
