Driving up the Southern California Coast on an RV Trip

Driving from Santa Barbara to Morro Bay, California doesn’t take long but is a trip fit for the adventurer. Taking an RV is the perfect way to travel, too, because you don’t have to find hotels or even restaurants where you can enjoy your favorite foods. This is ideal for a fun winter trip.

Santa Barbara will be one spot you can stop for a while to take in the sights. The beaches are always a favorite, and although chilly breezes can blow in from the ocean, you can still get in some beachcombing. Dress warmly and walk those sandy stretches with joy. The sea birds will be begging for food, so take along some bread crumbs and make some friends.

Stearns Wharf is a wonderful place to shop and browse. You can even take a water taxi to the harbor and back. Santa Barbara has great boutique shops and you will find a quaint sidewalk cafe where you can stop for a hot drink. Visit Mission Santa Barbara for a look into the historic past. Remember, too, this is wine country and you’ll find wine trails to tour for a superior wine tasting experience.

Continue up the coast now and stop at Gaviota State Park to get into the outdoors. This park is only thirty-three miles north of Santa Barbara and offers some wonderful places to put out a picnic lunch. You may not want to swim or scuba dive this time of year, but you can hike up to Gaviota Peak and get some incredible views of the Channel Islands.

Next stop is the quaint town of Solvang, a delightful destination, particularly if you can make it for the Christmas celebrations. The Danish atmosphere gives you a unique experience. Then as you make your way to San Luis Obispo, California, you will find a slow-paced living style in this small community. Every Thursday you can go to the popular San Luis Obispo Farmer’s Market, where there are more than farm foods for sale. Find some of the best wines and party with the residents and other tourists.

Besides walking the lovely beaches, trekking the hiking trails in the area or strolling along the streets and taking in the ambience, you can soak in some hot springs. River Oaks Hot Springs Spa is twenty minutes out of town. Here you can relax, unwind and heal your spirit – and perhaps your body. It is well known that natural hot springs can be very beneficial with their healing minerals.

Another must-see in San Luis Obispo is the Mission San Luis Obispo. If you love golf, be sure to play a game or two here on one of the local courses. Then get ready for the last leg of your journey north. When you arrive in Morro Bay, California you’ll find a very picturesque place indeed. This seaside town makes a good home base for some outdoor recreation, such as hiking, fishing or biking.
