Rent an RV Guest House for the Holidays

Are friends and family coming in for the holidays and your house is full to the rafters? Instead of reserving hotel rooms for your visitors, why not rent an RV as your holiday guest house?

Keep reading to learn why an RV rental is the perfect way to open your home to more visitors this holiday season.

  • RV Styles for Every ‘Guest House’ Need: With so many styles of motor homes to choose from, every holiday host can offer comfortable accommodations. From top-of-the-line ‘bus style’ Class A units to roomy cabover Class C motorhomes with convenient slide-outs, there’s an RV to accommodate your overflow housing needs. Whether it’s the newlywed cousins or a family of six coming to stay, there’s a style of motorhome to meet your needs.
  • RV Comfort to Pamper Your Guests: Offer your holiday season guests the luxury and comfort of today’s RVs. Separate bedrooms, modern kitchens for preparing midnight snacks and an amazing amount of storage keep holiday visitors comfortable without paying for pricey hotel rooms. Tips for even more holiday fun: use the extra space to organize late night card games, a grown-up girls’ slumber party or football night in the RV man cave!IMG_3856
  • RV Guest House Privacy and Convenience: Too many guests in one house can spell trouble over the holidays! Even the closest of friends or families can get on each other’s nerves when squeezed into cramped quarters. Let your guests enjoy the convenience of separate space in your “RV guest house”. For guests who need their privacy, even on a holiday trip, your guest house on wheels will become a favorite hideaway. No better way to keep your visitors jolly!
  • RV Holiday Rentals are Affordable:   All that comfort and they’re affordable, too! RV rentals, especially when you take advantage of special holiday rates, beat the price of hotel rooms hands-down. Check out rental pricing for a motor home that sleeps your number of extra guests comfortably and then compare it to local holiday hotel rates for the same number of guests. Amazing, isn’t it, how affordable RV accommodations can be? Factor in the convenience, comfort and flexibility of renting motorhome guest quarters and you’ll be booking a rental RV for every holiday!   Picture of Holly
  • Renting an RV for the Holidays is Easy: With convenient El Monte RV Rental locations across America, finding and renting the perfect RV guest accommodations is easy. Our helpful staff at every location will help you select just the right RV and check that holiday task off your list. Why send extra guests away to hotels when an RV guest house keeps them close to the holiday fun? Give your holiday visitors a special treat this year—the privacy, comfort and convenience of guest quarters just steps from your front door. Your home might just become their favorite holiday destination!

Harvest Hosts Upgrades the Way RVers Travel in the U.S.

As much as we all love RV vacationing, there are certain challenges that come with this method of travel.  For instance, where to spend the evening on the road when traveling far distances from one location to the next is a common challenge for every RV traveler!  Many RV vacationers may not be aware of their choices in overcoming this challenge of finding a convenient and beautiful place to stay the night while in transition from one destination to the next.  Even if there are amazing sites and attractions nearby, spending night after night in Wal-Mart parking lots can become less than desirable.  And during the peak vacation season, finding an available campsite is not always possible.  Discover another and far better over-night camping option you now have with Harvest Hosts!

HARVEST HOSTS Winery Participant in Nottingham, New York

HARVEST HOSTS Winery Partner

Harvest Hosts is changing all of that.  Harvest Hosts is a program where wineries, farms, and breweries from all over the country open their gates to you for overnight dry camping.  Seasoned RV travelers Kim and Don Greene started this luxury-style camping concept in the U.S. after driving over 200,000 miles by RV all over the world.  They found that it was common for wineries and farms in Europe to host travelers overnight, but nothing similar existed in the United States. In true entrepreneurial spirit, they started their own version of a European hosting association.

From their small and localized upstart with locations only in California, Oregon, and Washington, Harvest Hosts has expanded to include numerous locations across the continental United States, Canada, and even Baja California in Mexico!  The program requires a nominal $40 membership fee for the entire year, giving you money-saving access to travel across North America without paying a cent for camping or parking!

Taste and Experience the Pleasure of RV Road Traveler!

Taste and Experience the Pleasure of the RV Road Traveler!

In return, these small (usually family-run) businesses simply ask that you purchase a bottle of wine or some of their other homemade goods.  Sampling local vintages and farm produce is already on the to-do list for most RV vacationers, so it’s a small price to pay for the great company and amazing locations available.  Free overnight parking added into the activities that you were already planning on is too good to pass up!  There’s really nothing like watching a sunset and sharing a glass of wine with the people that made it.

Once becoming a member, you can search through interactive maps that show available hosts and the amenities that they provide.  It’s a good idea to call ahead to make sure that the farm or winery you have in mind actually has space for you, though.  Many of the hosts are small-time operations that may not accommodate a large number of vehicles at one time.  That’s part of the charm, however.  Instead of an endless sea of RVs, you get the experience of potentially being your host’s only guest!  There’s nothing like waking up to a beautiful morning and being greeted only by the sound of the wind in the trees and farm animals starting their day.

Another benefit to being a member is access to a handy app that helps you find locations along the routes you are planning to take.  You can also use online forums where you may ask questions of other travelers, read up on host reviews, and even share your own vacation experiences and photos.  It’s a valuable tool for selecting the very best spots for your trip.

Overall, Harvest Hosts is providing a valuable service for small-town agricultural businesses and the RV vacationers that love to visit them.  Get out of the parking lots and start making beautiful memories and having the best RV trips of your life!

Once you’ve experienced this pleasurable and memorable RV experience, send us a few photos and we’ll happily share them with our readers and on El Monte RV’s facebook page!

Take Off Through Texas Hill Country in an RV

An RV trip through the rugged landscapes of the Texas Hill Country will put a refreshing twist on your vacation.  This is not just the colorful hills of the Lone Star State but an enchanting land of palm trees, cowboys, and German culture to explore.  Texas Hill Country isn’t just a vacation; it is an experience!

Natural Bridge in Texas Hill Country

Natural Bridge in Texas Hill Country

Starting out in Austin is the best plan, and there are many sights to see in that city, too.  But you will want to move on as there is a lot to see on this Hill Country tour.  Stop at Johnson City, Texas with its fascinating history and attractions for young and old.  The grownups might enjoy a guided hunt.  The whole family will love the Exotic Resort Zoo.  There are more than 500 types of animals to see here, many endangered.

Next stop can be beautiful Fredericksburg with its historical heritage, lovely galleries and delicious German food.  Drink up the great beer and then arrange a tour of the Admiral Nimitz Museum and the National Museum of the Pacific War.  The kids and adults will find the Japanese midget submarine an awesome exhibit indeed.

Then move on to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, the ideal place to have a picnic and hike to the top of a pink mountain.  The granite is pink, and yes, you’ll need your camera gear so you can take a photo.  You might catch a shot of some of the wildlife that make this area their home.

Visit the town of Kerrville for an introduction to some wonderful home cooking and plenty of live music.  Continue on and loop around to Bandera, Texas.  This is another spot where you can find great country home cooking and a lot of country music to boot.  Relax and enjoy the ambience of the Texas Hill Country.  You’ll want to visit the Frontier Times Museum for another view of the history of this region.  You may be surprised to also see a shrunken head.  Wait a minute!  How did that get here?

At the Hamilton Pool Preserve you can go hiking and study nature, then drive to the Guadalupe River State Park to paddle on the river.  The next stop on your trip is New Braunfels, a German community that welcomes visitors and shows everyone a wonderful time.  This town was founded by a German prince and the town has followed German culture throughout the years.  Ride a miniature train, take a paddle boat on the river, and shop for creative gifts to take back home.  The Hill Country RV Resort is a great place to stay.

Grounds at the Alamo in Texas

Final stop on this RV trip in Texas Hill Country is San Antonio.  Naturally, you’ll want to experience the River Walk and take in the beauty of the Alamo, but you will also love visiting the San Antonio Zoo.  There are always things happening in San Antonio.  Plan ahead by checking online for dates of fun-filled events going on during your RV trip in town so you won’t miss a thing.  This would be the proper ending to a well-planned, well-executed RV Texas Hill Country trip!

Planning an RV Vacation so All Goes Smoothly

You want your RV vacation to be the best that it can be for everyone.  After all, a vacation is supposed to relieve all the stress built up from living day-to-day in your workaday world.  But if you are not fully prepared, you will be adding stress to your vacation days.  Let’s see how we can prepare you for your RV vacation and have a worry-free getaway.

Florida Keys, Florida USA

Florida Keys,

First, you need to know your destination and how you’ll get there.  You will find El Monte RV Rentals all over the United States where you can obtain the ideal motor home for your trip.  We offer free “RV Camping Itineraries” that provide  mapped-out courses and destinations for your convenience.

You can either “fly-drive” to your destination or pick up your motor home locally and enjoy the drive and adventures along the way that only RV travel can offer!  Don’t forget that in many cases you can take advantage of our free airport shuttle service in major airport cities.  Check our website for availability.

Here’s a possible RV Travel Itinerary:  you can rent an RV from El Monte RV Rentals in Orlando, find a nice camping spot, visit some Orlando sights, and then head to the Keys for more fun.  On the way to the Florida Keys there are plenty of sights to see and you’ll want to allow time to stop and enjoy them all.  You may want to refer to previous postings on our Monty’s Musings blog to learn about many exciting destinations to visit in Florida in your RV.

From Orlando, you could head east to Fox Lake Sanctuary, then south on Interstate 95 to the Florida Keys and beautiful Key Largo.  For a winter vacation, you really can’t beat the Keys.  You will meet creative types who spend their time making unique art, beachcomber types who relax all day along the sandy beaches, and swim with the dolphins.  Use Google and maps on the Internet to plan your route and everything you want to see on the way.

If you don’t want to bring your pets along, you can contact a pet-sitter or the kennel in advance to ensure they have an opening for your time away.  But if you prefer keeping Fido with you, it’s good to know that El Monte RV is a “Pet-Friendly” company and supports taking the family pets along!  Also remember to check out the weather forecast for that area for the time you will be there.  It is surprising how accurate these weather forecasts can be.  You will then know what to pack, or even if you should put off your vacation for a few days to miss a storm.

You will want to prepare your smartphone and laptop for the trip.  Download some apps to make your vacation more exciting.  You can find apps online and pick the ones you’ll use the most.  Perhaps you’ll choose the one which forecasts weather down to the hour or perhaps the one which identifies animal tracks.  There are many to choose from.

Now begin to pack for your trip.  First make a detailed list of every item you want to bring and as you pack them, mark them off.  This way you’ll forget nothing.  Remember, when packing clothes, roll them instead of folding.  This prevents wrinkles.  There’s lots of storage in motor homes, so taking “it all with you” is usually not a problem!

When you prepare and plan out your trip, you will find everything less stressful and more enjoyable.  Have a great RV vacation!

An RV Vacation to Miami for the Complete Dining Experience

If you have ever dreamed of the ultimate culinary dining experience, now is your chance to make that dream come true.  You can hit the road and head for Miami on an RV vacation to enjoy the rewards of eating some of the best-tasting food in the country!   Miami, Florida, is a culinary paradise with many ethnic food offerings from all over the world — from Peruvian to Cuban and beyond.

Dining in South Beach, Miami

Dining in South Beach, Miami

In no particular order, let’s look at some of the best places to eat in Miami.  Once you get settled in a lovely RV camping spot, you can start your eating adventure.  If you love Italian food, your first choice should be Casa Tua in South Beach.   Order some delicious stone crab or try the lamb chop.  You won’t be disappointed!

For some incredible Mexican delights, try the fare at Los Tres Amigos.  They have some take-out too.  You might like the Mexican herbs used on the tripe and beef dishes.  Order Pollo a la Parrilla, which is simply grilled chicken with rice and beans.

If your appetite is demanding Greek dishes, Mykonos on Coral Way is the perfect destination.  Those who eat the Chicken Gyro Platter rave about how delicious it is.  The Vegetarian Mousaka is the ideal dish to order to avoid meat for this meal.

Now let’s do a dinner over at El Meson del Paraiso, a completely unique experience in Peruvian food.  Their seafood is “to-die-for” and they offer some lucuma ice cream to top off the meal.  Don’t expect very fancy dining, but expect great food and a satisfied appetite.

Some go wild for Indonesian cuisine — but, whether you go wild or are simply ready to try a bit of this original taste, Indomania is the place to go.  The menu is translated for easy ordering.  The traditional meals and the special treats are enough to make you want to come back again before leaving town.

The Akashi Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar is not just known for its excellent food but is also respected for its amazing artistic presentations.  Order salmon, yellowtail, or shrimp or go for the sushi boat or a tempura dish.  The lighting sets the mood; the food brings it all together for a tantalizingly memorable dining experience.

Visit and dine in Coconut Grove at Le Bouchon du Grove.  This is French cuisine in a warm Franco atmosphere.  You’ll think you are in France as you savor the French onion soup.

The next meal will need to be in Little Havana.  Eating Cuban food can mean more than just a meal; it can also mean making some local Cuban friends.  You will love the authentic menu at Versailles.  Everyone loves the plantains and the double fried tostones, as well as the Cuban bread.

Naturally, you may prefer traditional fare and should head to Brickell for dining at Tobacco Road.  You see, in Miami, no matter what your preferred dining pleasure is, you can find any food choice you want to satisfy the most discerning of appetites!  Choose restaurants with live music or quiet nooks to relax and enjoy a meal.  Come back often on an RV vacation to savor Miami’s array of cuisine.
