The Great American Road Trip

In case you missed it, NBC debuted a new reality series called The Great American Road Trip on July 7th. Over 8 episodes 7 families will travel to various destinations across the United States in Class-A motorhomes. At the destinations they will compete in “humorous challenges” that will culminate in one victorious family.

Fishing Folsom Lake, California

Folsom Lake is part of the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area (SRA). It is located at the base of the Sierra foothills about 25 miles east of Sacramento.

Fishing
Folsom lake fishing offers trout, catfish, large mouth, small mouth and spotted bass, and perch. Folsom Lake is perhaps best known as an excellent destination for bass fishing. Large fish can be caught by those willing to put in the time.

Other Things to Do at the Folsom Lake SRA
The Folsom Lake SRA offers more than good fishing. Other things to do there include:

  • A 32-mile long bicycle path (the American River Bicycle Path) that connects Folsom Lake with many Sacramento County parks.
  • The Oaks Nature Trail that offers a trail of over three quarters of a mile that is appropriate for hikers of all fitness levels and is handicapped accessible.

To make trip planning easier, here’s a quick list of California RV camping ideas to stir your fantasies. Gather the family ’round and build your dream trip. You’re going to love RV camping in California!

Attractions for the Kids
You can’t travel California with kids without visiting one of the world-famous theme parks. Travelling by RV keeps trip costs reasonable – imagine what you’ll save on hotel rooms, rental cars, and fast food!

Start your trip in Anaheim at that most famous of theme parks, Disneyland! And while you’re there, save time to enjoy Disney’s California Adventure. If travelling with Lego fanatics, head for Carlsbad, California to Legoland. A wild and crazy time awaits you as you discover rides, thrills and challenges for the entire family.

If vintage fun suits your fancy, spend your vacation in Santa Cruz and experience the ocean side amusement park at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Any trip to the Mile High City is a great one, but travelling there by RV opens a whole new dimension of fun. Here’s a list of traveler’s top picks for ways to enjoy the Denver area in the comfort of an RV.

Waking Up to Nature

Chatfield State ParkWaking up in a scenic mountain meadow will thrill even the most jaded vacationer. The scent of pines in the air, water rushing through a stream nearby – who could stay cranky with all that natural beauty outside your door? The Denver area has more than its share of scenic RV campgrounds. Campers especially love the Colorado State Parks within easy driving distance of the Denver metro area. Whether it’s Cherry Creek, Chatfield or Golden Gate Canyon State Park, there are plenty of scenic vacation memories in store.

Camping in the Heart of the Party

The people of North Central Colorado love to party, and they throw great festivals year-round! Make tracks in your RV to the Capitol Hill People’s Fair, an eclectic arts celebration of Denver’s diverse neighborhoods each June. Here’s another thought; if hot air balloons perk up your senses, head for the Rocky Mountain Balloon Festival at Chatfield State Park in August (just remember to reserve your campsite early!).

For a swan dive into Asian culture, be sure to visit the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival at Sloan Lake Park in Denver. Active vacationers are going to love the Denver area, with outdoor adventure opportunities in abundance. One you should definitely investigate is whitewater rafting. With two major rivers and Clear Creek within easy driving distance, Denver vacationers can experience every level of rafting excitement, from gentle drifting down the river to heart-stopping Level Five adventures.

If you’ve never experienced the Rockies on horseback, sign yourself up for one of the many area trail rides. Numerous horseback riding venues exist within thirty minutes of Denver, so don’t miss this opportunity for a front-row seat to nature. Another great way to see the best of Denver’s natural beauty is to try your hand at fly-fishing in nearby scenic rivers.

There are some big music festivals still on tap for the summer and fall of 2009. Following is a partial list of some of the larger events.

George Wein’s Jazz Festival 55 (Newport Jazz Festival) – August 7 – 9

George Wein’s Jazz Festival 55 will be held August 7 – 9 at Fort Adams State Park and the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island. Lollapalooza – August 7 – 9

Monterey Jazz Festival – September 18 – 20

This camping area is treed giving good shade. A porta-potty is available, as well as good water, but showers are not provided. Those who really can’t live without a shower go to the truck stop and shower for a fee.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. July 14, 2009 — To recognize its promotion of a voluntary carbon offset program, El Monte RV will be a featured AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah (AAA NCNU) Greenlight partner during the Auto Club’s annual Alternative Fuels Awareness Month in November.
